Allen & Heath’s iLive digital mixing system was selected by promoters, Cato Music, to manage FOH and monitors on the British Music Embassy stage at this year’s iconic SXSW festival in Austin TX, USA. Showcasing the UK’s brightest new bands and artists, the British Music Embassy was exclusively based at downtown Austin’s Latitude 30 club, where an iDR-48 MixRack and iLive-T112 Control Surface was installed at FOH, digitally split using a Dante networking card to a duplicate iDR-48/T112 for monitors.



There were performances from nearly 60 bands over the course of the week-long festival, including emerging talent Django Django, fiN, Maverick Sabre, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Jonquil, Ben Howard, Slow Club, Twin Atlantic, D/R/U/G/S, Skindred, and Clock Opera.

“I ran the desk in a very analogue way, all inputs on the left banks, and master section on the right and some visiting engineers wanted things moved around but we always managed to get the bands ready in the 15 minute changeovers. Some band engineers had never used the desk before but were so stunned by the ease of use, sound quality and format of the system they promptly added iLive to their riders,” explains FOH house engineer, Fabrizio Piazzini. “The festival patch included 37 channels but running iLive Editor meant I could drop all the channels for each performance on a single layer with just a few clicks. On the monitor side, we were running 5 mixes, with the odd band turning up with full IEM rigs. To ring out the wedges, we used the iLive MixPad app so we could actually EQ the system in the spot the artist would stand.”

The iLive system was supplied by Allen & Heath’s USA distributor, American Music & Sound, which also supplied Turbosound loudspeakers and beyerdynamic mics.

“I think iLive was a critical piece of the set up and it delivered every night,” commented Glen Rowe from Cato Music. “The British Music Embassy was a huge success this year and some sessions were so busy we set up more delays and opened the windows on the venue for people to hear outside!”

The Peavey 6505 has defined the sound of aggressive music for two decades



Peavey® is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its legendary 6505® Series guitar amplifier line, the amps that have defined the sound of aggression in music for two decades.

“The Peavey 6505 Series has earned its place in rock history as the guitar amplifiers of choice for a wide range of top rock and metal artists,” said Hartley Peavey, founder and CEO of Peavey Electronics.

The Peavey 6505 has helped define the down-tuned sound of modern metal in the arsenals of artists like Machine Head and producers such as Colin Richardson, Andy Sneap and Jason Suecof, who have produced the most enduring metal and hard rock albums of the past two decades.

“The 6505 was the first amp you could plug into for that heavier, thrashier tone,” said Sneap.

One of the keys to bringing metal’s new lows to the masses was Peavey’s patented Resonance circuit, which keeps the extreme low-end tight where other amps cannot. Resonance causes dramatic changes to the low-end response and allows the speaker to recreate the extended low frequencies with clarity and punch. Resonance is still a key ingredient of the 6505 sound today.

“When you throw in the Resonance, you almost get an extra sub-harmonic that is below where the bass is,” said Richardson, whose credits include Machine Head, Chimaira and more. “They’re some of the heaviest tones I’ve ever tracked.”

Machine Head’s Robb Flynn has used the amp since the recording sessions for his band’s debut, Burn My Eyes, in the early ‘90s. “We were trying to get a modern, heavy tone,” he said. “And when we came across [the 6505], it was crushing. It’s got a really incredible midrange growl that works so well.”

The 6505 legacy continues today with an artist roster that includes Bullet For My Valentine, Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Black Veil Brides, The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon, August Burns Red and more.

“It might be on 60-70% of [metal] releases that have come out in the last 20 years,” said Richardson. “If you put a metal record on, I’m sure Peavey is over 50% of what you’re hearing.”

Added Flynn, “Now that guitar tone has pretty much defined a generation of guitar tone.”

The Peavey 6505 Series includes the original 6505 head; the 6505 Plus, which features two independent channels; the 6534™ Plus, outfitted with EL34 tubes for a more British-sounding tone; and two combo versions of the 6505 Plus, a 1x12 and a 2x12.

Until today, guitarists could only choose between two types of amplifiers: heads and combos.
Now, we are introducing a completely new breed of amp: The Stomp-Head.

You can choose beetween two models - Stomp - Head 4. SL(Silver Line) and Stomp- Head 3.BL( Black Line). Stomp Head 3.BL (Black Line) has tree foot switches, Stomp- Head 4.SL ( Silver Line) has four and it's tube- transistor hybrid. "Master Tube" is responsible for stomp-head's power amp, while other tube works in preamp.

These drivers have been optimized using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to give a wider dispersion characteristic than conventional loudspeakers of this size. They also feature a square chassis allowing them to be positioned more closely for improved coupling in multiple driver configurations.

With Celestion's Compact Array Drivers, systems designers are now able to build into their products some of the principal advantages offered by line array designs: a more even distribution of the acoustic signal and the ability to project sound over greater distances.

2012-04-25 The new Nord Sound Manager v6.10 introduces a new approach to the way a program relates to pianos and samples in the Nord Stage 2. Instead of referencing to a location like before, programs will now know their source pianos/samples by name. This lets you move piano or samples around without it affecting the dependent programs. The Nord Stage 2 must be updated to version 1.60 and all programs converted by the Nord Sound Manager to the new format in order to benefit from the new features.

Other new features include a new Info pane that gives detailed info on which programs use which pianos/samples and vice versa and there's a handy Relink feature for assigning new sounds to existing programs. There's also a great new feature called Bundles that lets you pack together all the ingredients of sounds (programs, samples and pianos) into a single file - perfect for a selective backup and for sharing sounds with Nord owners with compatible instruments.

Allen & Heath Announce XONE:K2

Allen & Heath has announced the Xone:K2, a MIDI controller and audio interface with a 4-channel internal soundcard, configurable MIDI surface with tri-color LED illumination, USB bus power, and incorporating A&H’s proprietary X:LINK to connect with other Xone equipment

The K2 is designed to work with all MIDI-enabled DAW applications and interface with popular DJ software packages, such as Ableton, Traktor Pro and Serato Scratch Live. It has 52 physical controls – including 12 analogue and 6 endless rotary encoders with push switch, 4 linear faders, and 30 back lit performances switches – providing up to 171 MIDI control commands across 3 layers. The K2′s MIDI interface can be configured by the user, so the unit can be left in Open Architecture (Latching Layers off) Mode or set to Latching Layers Mode.

K2 has an internal 4-channel high quality soundcard, that can operate at 44.1 and 48kHz, and all channels run from the PC to the unit, configured to provide 2 stereo channels, one for headphones one for master out L and R, allowing headphone cueing without interrupting the master out. There is also a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack, and a master out on RCA phono connectors.

It is possible to link two K2 units together to double the control area using Allen & Heath’s proprietary X:LINK protocol. X:LINK uses a standard RJ45 connector and distributes power and data, which means two units can be connected to your DAW using only one USB port.

Xone:K2 is constructed with a strong plastic base and steel front panel employing A&H’s nutted pot construction to be both lightweight and hard-wearing. Finally, the K2 comes with a stylish carry case that doubles as a stand for ease of use for travelling DJs.

NAMM 2012: Universal Audio Apollo - audio interface with UAD DSP



At its heart, it's high-end 24-bit/192kHz recording front end, but it also enables you to track through the UAD range of powered plug-ins. It'll be available in Duo and Quad processing guises in the first quarter 2012, with prices estimated at $1,999 and $2,499 respectively.

It's worth noting that a Thunderbolt option card is set to be made available too, which will enable "lower latency, reduced audio buffer size, improved performance at high sample rates, and greater UAD plug-in instances" in comparison with FireWire.

Elation Professional’s Winter 2012 NAMM



LOS ANGELES – If there’s one thing visitors to Elation Professional’s Winter 2012 NAMM display will immediately notice, it’s that the company has spread its horizons well beyond the cutting-edge, value-driven lighting fixtures it has become so well known for. Two of Elation’s most exciting and innovative new NAMM introductions are in the video realm: a unique flexible LED panel that can bend around dimensional surfaces to create curved video walls; and a DMX-512 moving head video camera that can project images of people and objects in a room or dance floor onto a video wall or TV.

Also new and on the “edge” – quite literally -- is Elation’s easy-to-use RGB LED pixel tape, which can be affixed to the edges and surfaces of any object in moments to highlight it with a dramatic border of changing colors. Elation Professional NYC Schools Reduce Stage Lighting With Elation Lights



NEW YORK – Two New York City public schools have dramatically reduced the energy consumption of their stage lighting systems by more than 80% after replacing their existing conventional lighting rigs with LEDs from Elation Professional.

This amazing plunge in energy usage occurred at Walton High School and PS 86X, an elementary school. The two schools installed the new lighting systems as part of an experiment conducted by the Division of School Facilities, Board of Education, City of New York to gauge the cost-saving potential of LEDs.

The experiment began about four years ago, said Michael A. Fink of Magical Designs (Brooklyn, NY), who works as a design consultant to Prince Electric, which is under contract with the Division of School Facilities. “At that time, one of the division’s inspectors approached me and asked if we could put in an LED (stage lighting) system at one of the schools so that they could take a look at it,” said Fink. “That school -- Walton High School -- was very large.”

All of the lighting on the massive (56’ wide by 25’ deep) stage in Walton’s auditorium was subsequently replaced with Elation Opti Tri Pars and Design LED 60 Tri-Strips. The Opti Tri Par is a DMX-compatible RGB LED Par, powered by 18 3-watt tri-color (red, green, blue) LEDs. The DLED 60 Tri-Strip is a 68” LED strip containing 60 3-watt tri-color (red, green, blue) LEDs.

Twelve Opti Tri Pars were installed on a strip across the front of the stage. Behind it were three identical strips, each holding four DLED 60 Tri-Strips, plus five Opti Tri Pars positioned between the strips and at either end “to focus in on specific areas”. The total number of LED fixtures came to 27 Opti Tri Pars, and 12 DLED 60 Tri-Strips. Conventional fixtures continued to be used for Front of House lighting.

Where Walton’s old stage lighting system had required 100,200 watts of electricity, the new LED rig ran on just 18,464 watts, Fink reported – a remarkable 81% drop in energy consumption. “And that number included the Front of House conventionals,” Fink said. “We proved that over a 10-year period the school could save more than $202,000 in energy and maintenance costs, because in addition to the lower electricity usage, LEDs don’t require gels or lamp replacements. Also with LEDs the installation costs are lower because they require no dimmer rack and fewer circuits.”

Although school facility division officials were “pretty impressed,” said Fink, “they were new to LEDs so they wanted to look at longevity, quality, performance and other issues before they went forward.”

The decision to move “forward” was made this year when the New York Division of School Facilities requested that the auditorium at a smaller elementary school, PS 86X, be retro-fitted with LED stage lighting. The school’s existing conventional lighting system was less than five years old, but already was “completely burnt out,” said Fink.

PS 86X now enjoys the distinction of having the first all-LED stage lighting system in the New York City public school district. Fink used the same Elation fixtures that had worked so well at Walton, installing a total of 18 Opti Tri Pars and three DLED 60 Tri-Strips on the school’s 30’ wide by 15-1/2’ deep stage. A front strip over the stage contains 6 Opti Tri Pars, and a strip behind it holds the three DLED 60 Tri-Strips, along with four additional Opti Tri Pars. “The front lights give coverage over specific areas, while the back strip allows them to do band risers,” said Fink. The remaining 8 Opti Tri Pars are located on the front edge of the stage, four on either side.

The energy savings numbers at PS 86X were just as impressive as they had been at Walton: 12,400 watts consumed by the old system, and a mere 1,952 watts by the new one. The school district was so pleased that they have given the green light for an LED lighting system to be installed at a third school – this one a middle school.

In addition to the important requisite that fixtures be either ETL or UL approved, as the Opti Tri Par and DLED 60 Tri-Strip are, Fink says that he chose the two units for use in the school projects for a couple of reasons. “First, with schools we want to keep it to the point where the fixtures are simple and usable, as both of these lights are. Second, we don’t want to sell anything that we haven’t heavily tested. At the time the first job came about, we had seen these units, tested them, and looked at Elation’s service and replacement policy. Because of these factors, we decided that the lights were a good choice for schools.

Okineš žicu, doštimaš dok kazaljka ne dođe u “nulti”položaj... ili dok se ne upali zelena dioda..”



T.C.Electronic PolyTune je nešto sasvim novo. Kao prvo, “štima” svih šest žica u isto vrijeme. Umjesto jednu po jednu, opališ svih šest žica odjednom, i svaka je odvojeno prikazana na svom display-u. Koji štimer pored ovog to može?

Druga stvar koja odvaja PolyTune od ostalih štimera je automatsko prilagođavanje jačine osvjetljenja display-a. Foto-stanica prati jačinu svjetla u okruženju i prema njoj prilagođava koliko jako će display svijetliti.

Sven Lens inženjer zvuka iz Nizozemske i vlasnik studija “Wisseloord Studio” na dobrom glasu planetarnih razmjera, ušao u projekt snimanja dvije svjetske super-zvijezde potpuno različitih stilova glazbe. Snoop Dogg i ikona Willie Nelson su snimali pjesmu: “My Medicine”. Sven je pri toj zgodi koristio sE Gemini studijski mikrofon za kojeg smatra da ima najbolji zvuk. Ovaj impresivni novi mikrofon kompanije SE Electronics koristi dvije elektronske cijevi umjesto klasične jedne. Pomoću njega snimani su oba vokala I Willijeva gitara.

Svjetski čuveno grčko kazalište „Greek Theatre“ nedaleko od Hollywood-a u Los Angelesu, California, nadogradilo zvuk s pojačalima Lab.gruppen iz FP+ serije i PLM serijom sistema menagmenta. Američki proizvođač gitarskih pojačala potpisao je ugovor sa čuvenim gitaristom Metallice Kirk-om Hammett-om, o izradi serije potpisanih Randall pojačala.
Hammett i Randall su postigli dogovor u vezi izrade proširene serije gitarskih pojačala koja imaju zadatak da na najbolji mogući način dočaraju ton ovog gitariste i Metallice uopće.
U ovoj seriji će se naći potpisana combo pojačala, glave, te gitarska predpojačala...
